Each year there are a minimum of 50,000 miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss reported in the United States of America. About 26,000 pregnancies end in stillbirth. This implies that there is at least 1 stillbirth every 20 minutes.

Although anyone of any nationality, race, or economic background is susceptible to experience a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss in the United States it is most common among the African American and the Hispanic (Latino) Community.

The U.S. stillbirth ratio is 6 per 1,000 births. One of the highest rates among high income developed and medically advanced Countries.

The National Statistical Office has suggested that many stillbirths occur at full-term or close to full-term, to apparently healthy mothers.

40% of cases have unknown reasons.

In Ohio, the rate of pregnancy to early infant mortality is higher than the national average. The ratio averages 7 to 8 pregnancies per 1,000 births. Ohio's most recent reported live births were 138,284 which mean Ohioans loose at least 11,047 infants annually. Cuyahoga alone reported 14,787 that means that Cuyahoga County resident's experience a minimum of 1,310 loses in early infant mortality alone.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, although there have been advances in medicine to reduce neonatal loss, stillbirth, and infant mortality the number of cases in the United States of America remain stubbornly high.

You may feel like you are the only one going through this, however, the emotional effects of stillbirth affects everyone who was involved with the pregnancy. This includes the Mother, Father, Grandparents, extended family members, and friends. Everyone and anyone who is an important part of your life can and most likely is affected by the loss as well.

The Adonis Foundation is committed to reduce the cases of miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss that lead to Alcohol & Drug abuse, self-harm, or suicide, among other life threatening activities that have a negative impact on our Community and Nation as a whole.
